Wireless Data Services

Trai has come out with a report on wireless data services in India where it stressed that efforts should be made by all the stakeholders to further reduce the cost of accessing the data, as data access can have a multiplier effect in improving the economic status and quality of life of rural populations.

The report said that the affordability of telecom services also needs to be seen in the context of income spent by an average person living below poverty line. As the poverty line for rural areas is nearly Rs 32 and for urban areas Rs 47 according to a report by the Expert Group to Review the Methodology for Measurement of Poverty submitted in June 2014 to the Planning Commission by Dr C Rangarajan.
