It looks like what can be called as a ‘boon’ for Apple, may have become its ‘bane’ as well. iPhone, the company’s most successful product till date is not just known for its premium appeal and experience but also for its longevity. You can buy one and stick with it for next few years, receiving all the updates. However, this is also one of the reasons that may have led to a lacklustre iPhone sales performance off lately, according to a Bernstien analyst.
Named Toni Sacconaghi, the analyst who revealed the reason on CNBC, wrote a note to clients informing that the long upgrade cycle is one of the main reasons for poor sales. It was told that the cycle has now been lengthened to four years in fiscal 2019, a year more than what was until fiscal 2018. The analyst additionally blamed Apple’s discounted battery replacement program that led old iPhone users to stretch the longevity even more.
