Mobile teledensity declines to 81.26%, says Trai report

The total wireless teledensity declined from 81.38% at the end of March, 2016 to 81.26% at the end of June, 2016, telecom regulator Trai in its quarterly finding said.

Trai (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) said that urban teledensity urban mobile subscribers fell marginally from 154.01 to 153.22, and the subscriptions in urban areas declined to 609.45 from 609.69 million in the quarter ended June 30, 2016.

The subscriber base in rural India, according to Trai, however, increased from 449.17 million to 450.41 million and teledensity also increased from 51.37% to 51.41% during the same quarter.

The overall subscriber base registered a growth of 0.14% over the previous quarter.

With a net addition of 1.49 million subscribers during the same period, the total wireless subscriber base increased from 1,033.63 million to 1,035.12 million at the end of June, 2016.

The Trai report also revealed that the monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) for GSM service increased by 0.96%, from Rs 125 while prepaid ARPU per month increased from Rs 107 to Rs 108 in the quarter ended June, 2016.
