Amazon is replacing Android with its own software on these products

Amazon has been said to be developing its own in-house operating system, reportedly named Vega, to replace Android on its hardware products. The transition was said to begin with Fire TV devices, starting next year, further expanding to other smart home products of Amazon, as reported by Janko Roettgers’ report in his Lowpass newsletter. It seems like the transition has already begun.

The latest Echo Show 5 is running a new homegrown operating system called Vega OS, which is identified as “OS 1.1” instead of the expected Fire OS, as seen by Zatz Not Funny! This suggests that Vega OS is a brand-new platform. In contrast, Echo Show 8 still runs on Fire OS 7.5.6.1. Although Vega OS shares many similarities with its predecessor in terms of appearance and user experience.
