YouTube starts taking down videos promoting medical misinformation

Google’s video streaming platform YouTube is taking down some videos. The company announced that it’s trying to streamline its medical moderation guidelines. For this, YouTube will remove content that promotes “cancer treatments proven to be harmful or ineffective”. Moreover, videos that “discourages viewers from seeking professional medical treatment,” will also be deleted from the platform. The company said that this measure will help it to tackle misinformation around topics like Covid-19, vaccines and reproductive health.
