Xiaomi’s ‘troll’ target: Donald Trump

We have seen smartphone brands ‘trolling’ rivals quite often. These are at times subtle digs or direct jabs at some feature or a product. But a smartphone brand indirectly ‘trolling’ a world leader — some do refer to him as the ‘world’s most powerful man’ — has to be a first, right? This notorious first goes against the name of Indian smartphone market leader: Xiaomi.

In its ‘DiwaliwithMi’ series of ads, there’s one particular where Xiaomi has used a character that is masquerading as the president of United States. The Donald Trump ‘lookalike’ has adopted the mannerisms, accent and the tonality of the US president. In the ad, the Trump ‘doppleganger’ is talking about none other than Xiaomi in what seems like a press conference. He goes on to talk about how ‘they’ (as in Xiaomi) are the fittest brand and are number one in smartphones and TVs.
