Xiaomi tops Indian smartphone market, Samsung fastest-growing brand: IDC
Indian smartphone market has recorded a 54.3 million units shipment in the third quarter of 2020, according to a report by IDC. The report claims that during the quarter, the Indian smartphone market has seen a 17% year-over-year growth and is the only smartphone market in the top 3 to witness growth, as both the China and US markets declined year-over-year.
As per the report, the market was led by Xiaomi that shipped 13.5 million units in Q3. The top three models nationally from Xiaomi were Redmi 8A Dual, Redmi 8, and Redmi Note 9 despite facing supply constraints.
“Xiaomi also maintained the lead in the online channel with a 35% share, with Poco (sub-brand under Xiaomi) reaching an all-time high of more than one million shipments in 3Q20,” added the report.
Samsung, the South Korean tech giant, emerged at second slot, however, the company recorded the maximum growth of 38% in Q3. India became Samsung’s largest smartphone market globally, ahead of the US in this quarter, claimed the report, accounting for 15% of its global shipments.
