Xiaomi launches Amazon Kindle-rival, Mi Reader

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has entered a new category in its home country. The company has launched its first e-book reader on its home turf in China. Called the Xiaomi Mi Reader, the device looks quite similar to the Amazon Kindle. The Xiaomi Mi Reader supports a range of file formats, as per the company.

The Mi Reader that is right now at the crowdfunding stage sports a price tag of CNY 579 (approximately Rs 5,900). Interested buyers can start purchasing it starting November 20. After that, it will be priced at CNY 599 (approximately Rs 6,100). There is no official information on the open sale date of the product in China. The company so far has not even said anything on the international availability of the device either. Traditionally, Xiaomi launches new products first in its home country before bringing them to other markets and it remains to be seen if that will be the case with Mi Reader as well.
