Xiaomi is the new number three in global smartphone market

Xiaomi has overtaken Apple to become the third biggest smartphone player in the global smartphone market, according to a report by research agency Gartner. As per the report, Xiaomi has moved ahead of Apple for the first time ever with sales of 44.4 million units compared to Apple’s sales of 40.5 million units in the third quarter of 2020.

The report also claims that in this quarter, Xiaomi grew 34.9% year-over-year securing 12.1% market share and moving past Apple into the number 3 position. Xiaomi gained from Huawei’s loss including strong performance in China.

For those unaware, IDC also suggested the same in its quarterly report when it claimed that Xiaomi shipped 46.5 million devices to grab the number 3 position globally, beating Apple for the first time with 13.1% share and 42.0% growth.
