Wistron to assemble iPhone SE 2020 in India: Report
NEW DELHI: Premium smartphone maker Apple will reportedly assemble its new Apple iPhone SE in India through its contract manufacturing partner Wistron, which is already making iPhone 7 as per an Apple Insider report.
The move which is said to accelerate the smartphone maker’s Make-in-India plans will help it avoid steep tax levied on smartphones imported in India.
As per the report, Apple has informed at least one of its suppliers to start shipping components for the 2020 iPhone SE to manufacturing partners in India.
It should be noted that the previous-gen iPhone SE, launched in 2015, was made in India as well and it was one of the most affordable Apple iPhones. So if the assembly of 2020 iPhone SE does happen in India, it could allow Apple to price it slightly lower, maker it an attractive proposition for Indian buyers.
