Why US’ executive order on AI is good news for H-1B visa holders and students studying there

The US President Joe Biden has signed an extensive executive order (EO) on artificial intelligence (AI), emphasising the need for companies to report potential risks associated with their AI systems that could be exploited by countries or terrorists for the creation of weapons of mass destruction.

While the order primarily focuses on safety and security measures, it also contains provisions aimed at fostering the development of AI in the United States. These provisions include efforts to attract foreign talent to American companies and research laboratories, further boosting the country’s AI arsenal. As part of its plans, the Biden government wants to leverage the expertise of highly skilled immigrants and nonimmigrants with expertise in key areas to stay, study and work in the US, by making the visa interview and review process more efficient.
