Why so desperate to block BBC documentary?
After blocking the BBC documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has been trying to prevent its viewing and screening. Two episodes have been aired by the BBC, but the first one attracted more attention because it dealt with the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat, over which Modi has faced charges of inaction or complicity.
Ever since the government issued orders for blocking multiple YouTube videos and Twitter posts sharing links to the documentary, interest in it has increased. As usual, students are in the forefront of those who want to watch it. Political parties, including the Congress and the CPM, have also arranged public screenings in many places.
