Who’s no. 1? IDC, Canalys say Xiaomi while Counterpoint, CMR say Samsung

NEW DELHI: There is a split among market trackers on which company led India’s smartphone market in the July-September quarter. While IDC and Canalys ranked China’s Xiaomi as the leading smartphone company, Counterpoint Research and Cyber Media Research positioned Samsung as the top smartphone company in the country. All four agencies though were unanimous that it was a record quarter for shipments.

According to IDC’s latest report, Xiaomi continued to lead for 3+ years, shipping 13.5 million units in 3Q20, a growth of 7% YoY, well ahead of Samsung. Last month, Canalys had also ranked Xiaomi as the top smartphone brand in the third quarter.
