WhatsApp says Facebook doesn’t have access to UPI transactions data

Bengaluru: WhatsApp clarified on Thursday that Facebook doesn’t have access to Unified Payment Interface (UPI) transaction data, almost four weeks after its new privacy update had stated that the messaging app will share transaction data with its parent company.

The UPI-enabled payments are subject to a separate WhatsApp India Payments Privacy Policy, which hasn’t changed.

“The UPI transaction data is encrypted, and Facebook doesn’t have access to this data in clear format,” the blogpost stated. “If there is any conflict between WhatsApp India Payments Privacy Policy and the WhatsApp Privacy Policy, the WhatsApp India Payments Privacy Policy will control solely with respect to your use of UPI Payments.”
