WhatsApp alerts India users that its payments service exists
New Delhi: Several WhatsApp users in India received on Wednesday notifications regarding payments on the platform, an indicator that the world’s largest messaging service plans to create greater awareness about the feature that went live almost a year ago.
“Awareness about payments on WhatsApp is an important first step in helping people register and adopt it as a means of their daily transactions. The company is now beginning to inform users about the availability of the service,” Manesh Mahatme, director – head of WhatsApp Pay in India, said in a response to ET’s queries.
