Wearable wristbands tighten grip on market
Chennai: With a rising focus on health and fitness, wearable wristbands are emerging as a sought-out device among Indian consumers with the country emerging among the top wearables market globally only after the US and China. India’s wearable wristband market — comprising of activity trackers and smartwatches — has almost doubled shipments in the July-September period from the same quarter last year.
As per global research firm Canalys, from close to 8,00,000 units in the quarter ended September 2018, the wearable bands industry in India saw shipments of close to 1.5 million units in the quarter ended September 2019 — up almost 86%. India’s wearable band market is heavily driven by activity trackers, Canalys said.
