Watch: Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw demonstrates the semiconductor tech Micron is set to bring to India

US memory chip giant Micron Technology Inc recently announced that it would invest up to $825 million in a new chip assembly and test facility in India. The plant will be the company’s first factory in India and will be set up in the state of Gujarat. Announcing the new chip facility, Micron said that with support from the central as well as the government of Gujarat, the total investment in the facility will be $2.75 billion. Of this, 50% will come from the central government and 20% from the state of Gujarat.

IT and telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that Micron’s move will transform India’s semiconductor landscape and generate tens of thousands of high-tech and construction jobs.
