Vodafone launches 4G SIMs in Bengaluru ahead of rolling out services

Vodafone India announced the launch of 4G-ready SIMs in and around Bengaluru Monday in the run up to rolling out 4G services later this month in the Karnataka capital. The 4G SIMs will be available at Vodafone branded stores in all prominent locations in and around the city.

India’s second largest mobile carrier said it had “entered final stages” of launching 4G in Bengaluru in the 1800 Mhz band.

“A formal announcement regarding the launch, expected later this month, will be made in due course,” Vodafone India said in a media statement.

Vodafone’s potential 4G users will need to have a 4G-enabled handset and a new 4G-Ready SIM card.

Amit Kapur, (Business Head) Karnataka, Vodafone India said: “We want our over 26 lakh customers in Bengaluru to be 4G-ready so that they can start experiencing the benefits of high speed mobile internet services as soon as they are launched commercially, which is why, they are being given the opportunity to upgrade to 4G-ready SIMs in advance.”

Vodafone India’s would-be 4G customers can walk into any nearby company branded outlet and get their 4G-ready SIM with a hassle free exchange process. “With the new 4G-ready SIM, they will continue to enjoy uninterrupted mobile internet experience as per their existing plans and will be automatically upgraded to 4G as soon as the services are launched commercially,” said Kapur.

The company is also making arrangements for home delivery of 4G-ready SIMs for its premium high-value customers in Bengaluru.

Vodafone India has already launched high speed 4G services in Kerala, Mysore and Kolkata.

Vodafone India will roll out 4G services in Bengaluru, Delhi Mumbai this month.
