Vodafone launches 4G SIM cards in Kolkata

Vodafone India announced launch of 4G-ready SIM cards in and around Kolkata, that will work when it launches the service later. The cards will be available at all of its 28 exclusive stores in and around the metropolis and will be made available at multi-brand outlets in a phased manner, said a press statement Tuesday.

To avail 4G services, customers will need to have a 4G-enabled handset and a new 4G-Ready SIM card.

The Indian arm of the UK-based telecom major has already released SIM cards in the Mumbai market in the run up to the launch. For the moment the company is sponsoring the card exchange.

Anand Sahai, Business Head-Kolkata and Rest of Bengal Circles, Vodafone India, said, “Our 5 million customers have a lot to look forward to. We want our customers to be 4G-ready.”

The company will launch our 4G services on the 1800 MHz band in Kolkata very soon, he said in the statement.

As telecom companies race to launch high speed data services, Vodafone has already launched in Kochi and Mysore, while Idea Cellular started with a Mysore launch along with 75 other South Indian towns.
