Vodafone Idea shutting down 3G services in Chennai, Bengaluru: Report

NEW DELHI: Home-bred automobile maker Ather Energy said it will start equipping the Ather 450 with BSNL SIM card by mid-September, a departure from the Vodafone SIM card that it currently equips on its electric scooters, TelecomTalk reported.

The reason, as per Ather, is that Vodafone Idea will shut down its 3G services on 27 August 2020, in Chennai and Bengaluru which would lead to the Ather 450s equipped with Vodafone SIM card to switch to 2G services.

The electric automobile maker had equipped several Ather 450s with a Vodafone SIM cards. The electric scooters require mobile data connectivity for providing onboard navigation services and OTA updates.
