Vodafone Idea bankruptcy: 2G users at higher risk; Analysts say subsided smartphones from Airtel, Jio can help

NEW DELHI: Vodafone Idea’s 2G subscribers would be impacted the most if the struggling telco succumbs to its bad financial health and goes into insolvency, analysts said, adding that Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel will have to facilitate low-end 4G smartphones or 4G feature phones to Vodafone Idea’s low-end 2G customers.

Vodafone Idea, in its review petition to the Supreme Court, has said that if it goes bankrupt then over 27 crore subscribers will be left high and dry.

Vodafone Idea has 11.9 crore wireless broadband or 3G and 4G subscribers, which means the rest are 2G subscribers.
