VLC clueless about app ban; govt denies role
Open-source VLC Media Player and its parent organisation, VideoLan, claimed that they tried to approach the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to understand why their app as well as the website had been banned but did not receive an answer.
In response to queries sent by ET, Felix Paul Kühne, a board member of VideoLan, said the organisation first noticed the ban on its app and website in India on February 13 this year, after it recorded “a drop of 10-15% of website impressions (worldwide numbers)”.
Kühne claimed that the company never received any communication from Indian authorities.
