“USB-C’ing soon”: Why Apple has been reluctant to embrace USB-C in iPhones
Nearly a decade after switching to Lighting ports, iPhones are poised to come with USB-C ports for charging, which has been the default choice for other manufacturers lately. Well, if Apple had its way and the EU did not come up with the mandate, the upcoming iPhone 15 series would still have a Lighting port.
Even Google took a jab at Apple in its new ad-cum-annoucnement video for the new Pixel. “You’ll be seeing USB-C soon,” iPhone says, hinting at the rumors that the coming iPhones would come with the USB Type-C port. “You’re finally getting USB-C charging?” teases Pixel, taking a jab at iPhones that they still do not have a USB-C port while Pixels and other Android phones have long had a USB-C port. And the iPhone asks, surprised, “How did you know?”
