Union Cabinet clears Digital Personal Data Protection Bill

NEW DELHI: Social media giants will soon need to be transparent on how they use your digital personal data and with whom they share it, while broader tech and internet companies – and even the government – would be mandated to disclose the nature of processing after the Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave a go-ahead to the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, with plans to table it in the Parliament during the upcoming monsoon session, reports Pankaj Doval.

Cross-app tracking of users on Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS will also be curbed, while the government will try and see that apps take consent only for those matters which are related to their functioning or the features they offer.
