The latest flashpoint in the telecom industry is Trai’s move to block Vodafone Idea’s RedX and Bharti Airtel NSE 0.51 %’s Platinum premium tariff offers that promise priority network services and faster data speeds, after a Reliance Jio complaint. The bone of contention is whether the RedX and Platinum offers can guarantee faster speeds, and thus lead to deterioration in quality of services to consumers not subscribed to these plans. VIL had moved TDSAT, which had stayed the Trai order. ET spoke to experts in network matters to unravel the underlying technology driving such priority access offers.
