Unavailability of 26GHz-based 5G to dampen India’s ambition to drive additional GDP growth

NEW DELHI: Telecom gear vendors and the GSMA said that unavailability of the coveted 26 GHz, millimeter wave spectrum band may dampen India’s ambition to drive additional GDP growth in a mid-to-long-term as for various 5G use cases including for industries and enterprises won’t truly work in the country.

The recent proposal from the telecom department, backed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), to slash the transmission capability of mobile base stations operating in the coveted 26 GHz millimeter wave spectrum band has put a question mark over the roll-out of various critical use cases around 5G in India.
