UN chief wants a nuclear watchdog like global AI agency
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) has raised the eyebrows of regulators. Several countries including the US, the UK, the European Union and other regions are all preparing to legislatures to monitor the technology. Now the United Nations (UN) has also stepped in and has backed a proposal by some AI executives for an international AI watchdog body that will function like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“Alarm bells over the latest form of artificial intelligence – generative AI – are deafening. And they are the loudest from the developers who designed it. We must take those warnings seriously.” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, reports Reuters.
