Twitter says it does not have a caste ‘problem’ in India
Not a day goes by when there isn’t a furore of some kind on Twitter. Earlier this week, there was a furore against Twitter on Twitter, which led to calls for cancelling the overhyped ‘blue ticks’ on the social media platform. The whole thing kicked off when Twitter restricted a columnist’s account and a lot of users alleged that Twitter had a ‘caste’ bias. Now, the social media platform has issued a statement and clarified its stance. In a tweet, the company explained, “There’s been a lot of discussion this week about Twitter’s perceived bias in India. To be clear, whether it’s the development of policies, product features, or enforcement of our Rules, we are impartial and do not take action based upon any ideology or political viewpoint.”
Reiterating its stance of being impartial, the company further said that, “Twitter’s commitment to inclusion and diversity is fundamental to who we are and crucial to the effectiveness of our service. Voices from across the spectrum can be seen and heard on Twitter and we are committed to the principles of openness, transparency, and impartiality.”
