Twitter is getting sued for $250 million, here’s why

Twitter, which is already in soup for non-payment of rent and other bills, has another problem. The social media company is being sued for $250 million by a group of 17 music publishers for copyright infringement.

The music publishers sued Twitter in a US federal court accusing the company of enabling thousands of copyright violations by allowing users to post music without a licence.

Members of the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA), which includes Sony Music Publishing, BMG Rights Management and Universal Music Publishing Group, are seeking damages for the alleged infringement of nearly 1,700 copyrights.
