Twitter has declined govt orders it disagreed with: Legal chief Vijaya Gadde
Twitter has declined a number of orders by the Indian government to take down tweets or deactivate user accounts, when the microblogging platform deemed it a violation of Indian and international laws and targeted at activists, journalists or political rivals, according to the company’s chief legal officer Vijaya Gadde.
Terming Twitter’s ongoing fracas with governments across the world as “enormous challenges, not just for us but for the open internet,” Gadde said the company was “trying to make sure we have the flexibility to continue to operate in the (Indian) market and continue to enforce our rights and the rights of the people using our service.”
