TV viewership: Sports’ loss is news genre’s gain in first-half of 2020

The TV news genre has registered a maximum jump in viewership in the first half of 2020, as viewers kept coming back to the news channels for information related to Covid-19 pandemic through the crisis.
As per the latest BARC India report, the news genre viewership was up 43% during the first 26 weeks this year, compared to the corresponding period in 2019.
The viewership of business news genre also went up by 44%, while that of kids and movie genres surged by 31% and 19%.
