Trai suggests ways to promote bit-rate satcom services

The telecom regulator has recommended that companies offering satellite-based IoT connectivity and low bit-rate services be allowed to hire foreign satellite capacities for longer tenures, beyond the currently permissible 3-5 years spans to make such services more affordable in India.

It has also called on the government to “publish a list of approved foreign satellites/satellite systems based on a technical and security evaluation,” from whom the service licensees may hire such capacities.
