Trai seeks answers for poor broadband proliferation, slow speeds

New Delhi: The telecom regulator has asked industry stakeholders about reasons for poor broadband proliferation in India, despite being the most affordable in the world, and policy measures required to address this slow growth.

“Even though mobile broadband services are easily available and accessible, what could be the probable reasons that approximately 40% of total mobile subscribers do not access data services,” the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) said in a consultation paper released Thursday. “Even though fixed broadband services are more reliable and capable of delivering higher speeds, why is its subscription rate so poor in India?”
