Trai lets telcos hike fees on incoming international call
NEW DELHI : The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Friday permitted mobile phone operators to charge as much as 65 paise per minute on incoming international calls, two years after slashing the rate to a fixed 30 paise per minute.
In the new regime, operators can charge so-called international termination charge (ITC) in a range of 35 to 65 paise per minute. ITC is paid by an international long distance operator (ILDO) to an Indian firm for a call that terminates on latter’s network.
The move follows a review meeting in December that Trai held with industry stakeholders, who had pointed to the rates levied by various countries.
