TRAI floats paper on increasing scope of telecom infra companies
MUMBAI: The telecom regulator has floated a consultation paper asking for stakeholders’ comments on whether the scope of infrastructure or tower providers should be increased, to include provisioning of common or sharable active infrastructure such as nodes and radio access networkM.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has also asked whether they should be allowed to provide end-to-end bandwidth through leased lines to service providers. The consultation paper comes on the backdrop of 5G – which will require a dense and upgraded network – and of the provisions in National Development Commission Policy (NDCP) 2018 which aims to improve broadband access and help in overall digital infrastructure enhancement.
