TikTok app changes its privacy policy in the US, but ‘issues’ remain in India

NEW DELHI: “With greater power, comes greater responsibility, is something Peter Parker’s uncle said before his nephew became Spiderman. The line holds true in many contexts and even in the case of apps. Recently, it was reported that TikTok the popular Chinese social video app crossed 1 billion downloads within one year of its launch. Apart from being a popular app, TikTok has also been criticized for promoting child pornography and other controversial videos.
Learning its lesson the company has now started deleting some of the user accounts and videos. As reported by The Verge, some of the TikTok users claim that their account and videos were deleted from the platform without any prior warning. The report adds that the app has made some changes to its children’s privacy policy. After the change, TikTok is deactivating the accounts which are younger than 13 years of age.
