This is what Google has to say on ‘copying’ lyrics for you
Google was recently accused by a firm called Genius Media of lifting its content and showing it in search results. The company, which is known to show lyrics of hard-to-decipher rap and hip hop songs, claimed that Google ‘copied’ the lyrics from their website and showed it in search results, thus reducing the number of clicks on Genius Media’s website and hampering the business. Although Google denied the claim and said that the content it shows is licensed by their-party vendors, it is now going an extra mile to make the process more transparent.
Satyajeet Salgar, group product manager of Search at Google, has confirmed in a blog post a new feature that you will soon be seeing when you search for song lyrics. Google will now be attributing the lyrics shown in search results to the website from where it has been picked up with permission.
