The next time you pack your bags for a vacation abroad, do not forget to carry extra power banks and charging adapters for smartphones and other devices. No we are talking about the possibility that you might get stranded with a dead phone. But what’s more worrying is when you plug your devices at public USB charging stations found in airports, hotels, bus stops and even in public transport. It is highly recommended that you always use an adapter to charge your smartphone and not just plug it to any random USB port with just the cable. This is because there is a sudden rise in “juice jacking” or simply called USB charging scam.
What is it?
Attackers install malware in these public charging stations and when someone plugs their phone for charging, a ransomware can get installed or sometimes the malware can even steal personal data including passwords.
