These brands account for 88% of total Indian smartphone market

Market research firm Canalys has released a report detailing the top brands in the Indian smartphone market in the second quarter of 2019. According to the report, the top five brands — Xiaomi, Samsung, Vivo, Oppo and Realme — account for 88% of the smartphone market this year. This is 8% higher than the total market share of these brands in the second quarter of 2018.

Overall, the smartphone market in India has seen a slight decline from 33.1 million of the total shipments at Q2 2018 to 33 million of the total shipments to Q2 2019, as per the report. “The decline in the market is not a cause of worry,” said Rushabh Doshi, Research Director at Canalys. He further added, “India must now brace for further sluggish volume growth, as vendors stop focusing on sub-Rs 10,000 devices and move on to beef up Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000portfolios.
