Tension in Manipur after vehicles set ablaze, mobile internet services suspended for five days

The Manipur government has suspended mobile internet services for five days in the entire state citing a tense communal situation and volatile law and order after two vehicles were torched by unidentified people in separate incidents Saturday evening. The district administrations of Churachandpur and Bishnupur also imposed prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) for two months.

H Gyan Prakash, special secretary (home), stated in an order issued close to midnight on Saturday that internet services were suspended in Manipur with immediate effect to prevent any disturbance to the peace and public order in the state.
