Tell telcos to curb fake SMS headers, Delhi High Court directs TRAI

Mumbai: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to ensure that telecom operators strictly enforce regulations to curb the use of fake SMS headers by scamsters to dupe customers.

The digital payments industry hailed the order, as inadequate monitoring had allowed fraudsters to send fake messages under duplicate headers. SMS headers are unique IDs through which commercial text messages are sent.
