Telecom user base jumps 3.8 million in January despite higher tariffs
New Delhi: The active subscriber base of Indian telecom operators jumped by 3.8 million in January despite higher tariffs, according to analysts, who said Reliance Jio’s offer of unlimited outgoing voice calls helped it lead the pack in number of additions.
“RJio started offering unlimited off-net outgoing voice calls (with FUP of 1,000 minutes for 28 days) with new tariff plans, which should have helped reverse the subs net add trend,” Brokerage firm ICICI SecuritiesNSE 1.74 % said in a report.
Active subscribers are those who have used the services of an operator in a particular time frame, while FUP refers to the number of minutes of outgoing calls to subscribers of other operators allowed as part of the plan.
