Telecom & the AGR Saga

The ghost of AGR (adjusted gross revenues) will not haunt telecom companies any longer. After fighting a legal battle for almost 15 years, the case can finally be put to rest, though on a prospective basis.

In a significant decision on Wednesday, the government announced that the definition of AGR will be rationalised and non telecom revenue will be excluded on prospective basis.

Though this win does not mean the past dues have been waived off, only a four year moratorium on AGR dues have been provided by the government.
