Telecom group seeks to do away with 0.5% charge on shared spectrum prospectively

NEW DELHI: The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) that represents incumbent telcos, has demanded the government should also abolish 0.5% spectrum usage charge (SUC) going forward on a shared spectrum, suggested sector regulator recently.

“The additional 0.5% of the SUC in case of the spectrum sharing should be done away with prospectively,” SP Kochhar, director general, COAI told ETTelecom, and added that the telecom watchdog has rightly clarified that a 0.5% charge be levied only on shared airwaves.
