Telecom firm loses Rs 5 lakh, 420 users after fake call, 2 booked
MUMBAI: A manager working with a leading service provider has lodged a police complaint against two unknown persons for allegedly calling up around 420 of their customers and falsely claiming that their cellphone bill had inflated. This led to the customers porting to another service provider following which he ended up losing up to Rs 4.8 lakh.
The Bangur Nagar police have registered an FIR and are probing further. The scam came to light in July when one of the customers alerted the complainant. The customer said he had received a call from an unknown person claiming to be the company’s representative. He asked the customer to pay more than the amount mentioned in his bill. The customer made an audio recording of the phone call and submitted it at the service provider’s office for confirmation.
