Telecom Diary: Will India’s semiconductor ambition take off?
India has been quite bullish on its semiconductor plans. But despite being announced with much fanfare, the plan of making India a semiconductor hub has been running at a snail’s pace.
The government first announced a semiconductor mission in 2021 with an incentive scheme outlay of $10 billion.
Under this scheme, investment of $19.5 billion by a joint venture between Vedanta Group and Taiwan’s Foxconn was announced to set up India’s first semiconductor and display production plants in Gujarat. The project came to a halt in July this year when the venture was called off.
