Telecom Diary: Brace up for a mobile tariff hike this year!
The Indian telecom market has been wearing the crown of being the lowest and affordable mobile market across the world. This has helped the industry in tapping a huge subscriber base but for good or worse that hasn’t translated into huge financial gains.
The telecom industry’s RoCE (return on capital employed) remains low. Aggressive investments in acquiring 5G spectrum and network deployments with no real monetisation in sight, operators are looking towards increasing mobile data tariffs. The last substantial hike in mobile tariffs was undertaken in 2021. Subsequently, there have been price revisions/corrections for the prepaid market in select circles.
