Telecom department seeks to liberalise import norms to fuel innovation

NEW DELHI: The department of telecom (DoT) Tuesday said that it has sent instructions to liberalise import norms for prototype, sample products, and test and measurement equipment in license exempt bands without the need of ‘equipment type approval (ETA)’.

Equipment type approval from DoT has been one of the prerequisites for importing products operating in license exempt bands, and with new instructions to the Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC), the move is aimed at ease of doing business.
