Telecom department misses 100-day trial deadline, lacks end-to-end 5G testbed

NEW DELHI: The government, with an ambitious plan to kick start commercial fifth-generation or 5G technology deployments starting 2020, still has no clarity on field trials and lacks end-to-end testbeds even after the lapse of a 100-day plan, it announced in June this year.

“There is no complete end-to-end testing using all of the 5G protocols. So, what you have in Chennai is a portion of the 5G,” the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) director general Rajan S Mathews told ETT, and added that it was though a good beginning but it would need to actually bring the actual equipment.
