Telecom department blocks 1,500 rogue local, overseas callers linked to cybercrimes and threats

New Delhi: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is suo motu blocking overseas and local phone numbers, which fraudsters and anti-national elements are using to commit cybercrimes and issue threats, without waiting for approval from either the Intelligence Bureau (IB) or the police, officials aware of the matter told ET.

The numbers are blocked based on complaints for such calls.

“In the last three-four days, over 1,500 callers, including international numbers, have been blocked by the government after checking the credentials of such calls from telecom operators,” said one of the officials cited.
